The world's first openly gay bishop announced in a column for The Daily Beast that he and his partner of over 25 years are getting divorced. Gene Robinson has been a bishop in the Anglican church since 2003. He and his partner Mark Andrews have been legally recognized as a married couple since 2010. In his announcement, Robinson addressed divorce from the perspective of a marriage equality advocate. “It is at least a small comfort to me to know that like any marriage, gay and lesbian couples are subject to the same complications and hardships that afflict marriages between heterosexual couples.”
