Four Houston police officers were shot while serving a warrant Monday evening, reportedly leaving two of them in critical condition. Police said the Narcotics Division officers had an “encounter with a suspect” and urged the public to avoid the area. SWAT teams reportedly swarmed the area after two suspects barricaded themselves inside a house. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted that the suspected shooter was “down,” and police later confirmed that two suspects were dead at the scene. Houston Police Officers' Union President Joe Gamaldi wrote that one officer was being “being flown by life-flight to a hospital,” and a source told the Houston Chronicle one of the officers was shot in the face. According to local news station KHOU, two are critically injured—with one “shot in the leg, one in the shoulder, and one in the face.” In a statement, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the incident a “horrific attack” and said the Houston Police Department will have whatever state resources needed to “bring swift justice to those involved.”
