The number of casualties in Afghanistan these past few days is truly disturbing. Five more U.S. soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday—bringing the total of American troops killed in action to 22 in the past four days. Four of the soldiers killed on Tuesday died in a Taliban bomb attack; the fifth died in an insurgent attack. So far, 485 foreign troops have died in Afghanistan this year, as compared with 521 for all of 2009.
