A Filipino Roman Catholic devotee is nailed to a cross during the a reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ during Good Friday celebrations ahead of Easter north of Manila on Friday. Eight Filipinos and a Dane reenacted the death of Jesus Christ by nailing themselves to crosses before thousands of people in a gruesome annual Easter spectacle in the Philippines. The crucifixion ritual, held every year to mark Good Friday in Asia’s bastion of Catholicism, has been going on for decades, becoming a major tourist draw despite official disapproval from church leaders.

Actors of the Wintershall Players perform The Passion of Jesus on Good Friday to crowds in Trafalgar Square. The Wintershall Players are based on the Wintershall Estate in Surrey and perform several biblical theatrical productions per year. Their production of The Passion of Jesus includes a cast of 80 actors, horses, a donkey, and authentic costumes of Roman soldiers in the 12th Legion of the Roman Army.
