Floods Cripple Phoenix

Massive storms in the Phoenix area have wreaked havoc in Maricopa County, Arizona. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport recorded two inches of rain, a historic high, while other parts of the state saw as much as five inches. Schools, highways, and streets have been forced to close due to the worst flooding the state has seen in 44 years. Tens of thousands have lost electricty. “Occasionally we’ll get a storm that really dumps on the west end of U.S. 60, or the central part, but not to this extent over the whole urban area,” said Steve Walters, a flood-warning branch manager for the Maricopa County Flood Control District.
