A Florida man died early Thursday morning after crashing his vehicle into an 11-foot alligator in Lithia, a town about 25 miles east of Tampa. After colliding with the massive creature around 12:30 a.m., the driver, 59-year-old John Hopkins, flipped off the road and into a ditch, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said. The Tampa Bay Times reports that both Hopkins and the gator were pronounced dead at the scene.
