Florida State Quarterback Deondre Francois Cut Over Alleged Domestic Violence
CONSEQUENCES
Florida State University football quarterback Deondre Francois was cut from the team after video surfaced of an alleged domestic-violence incident. Francois was implicated in a domestic dispute with his then-pregnant girlfriend in Jan. 2018. Tallahassee police said Francois and the woman gave different accounts of what had happened; nobody was arrested or charged. Head coach Willie Taggart said in a statement that “Last night, I informed Deondre Francois that he is no longer a member of the Florida State football program...we have high expectations for all of our student-athletes and we will not shy away from those high standards of conduct.” Francois’ dismissal comes shortly after his girlfriend uploaded a video to her Instagram account with audio that apparently captures a man and woman fighting, per Yahoo Sports. The man appears to threaten to strike the woman in her face. “I thought I loved him and thought he would change for the better but it has gotten worse,” stated the caption on the now-deleted video, which tagged Francois’ now-deleted Instagram account.
