Not only is the 2012 election a horse race, but apparently so is the honor of holding the first poll. Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon told CNN on Tuesday that the state is likely to move its primary to Jan. 31, jumpstarting the GOP nomination process a month earlier than expected. If that happens, it could force Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada to move their primaries and caucuses even earlier to overtake Florida. Cannon said the state commission will meet on Friday to make a decision, and states are required to submit their dates to the Republican National Committee no later than Saturday.
