Don Meredith, a legend for both his playing and his announcing, died at 72 in his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Meredith was the quintessential Dallas Cowboy: Signed to the Cowboys two months before they were admitted into the NFL, he played all of his home high school, college, and professional games within 100 miles of Dallas. Despite setting passing records and leading his team to title games, Meredith was heckled by fans who blamed him for not winning championships. After he retired at 31, he became famous as an announcer on Monday Night Football, where he would rib his co-announcer Howard Cosell and sing "The Party's Over" when the game looked decided.
