Their deceptive pieces of art—based on pieces by Matisse, Magritte, Teofili Patini, and Guido Reni—total in the millions of dollars in fraudulent sales, mostly online, but some via major auction houses, including Sotheby’s. The purchasing collectors were apparently none the wiser.
