Former Fox News executive Bill Shine is reportedly in talks to become the next White House communications director, according to The New York Times. Shine has met with President Donald Trump about the job in recent weeks, and sources told the newspaper that he was offered the job. White House officials said they were aware of the backlash that could occur if they hire Shine—who is closely connected Roger Ailes and the Fox News harassment scandals—but said they could “weather it.” The communications director position has been vacant since Hope Hicks left the job earlier this year. Current communications adviser Mercedes Schlapp was thought to be the favorite for the position, but the Times reported that the president did not offer it to her.
