Sarah Isgur, the former leading spokesperson for the Justice Department under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, is joining CNN as a political editor. The recently departed Trump administration official will coordinate CNN’s political coverage for the 2020 campaign—but will not play a role in covering the Department of Justice, according to a CNN official. President Trump has targeted the network, repeatedly deriding it as the leader in “fake news.” Isgur, who worked as the deputy campaign manager for Carly Fiorina before working at the DOJ, took aim at the now-president while on the campaign trail. “Saying you will criminally prosecute your political opponent when you win is a scary and dangerous threat,” she wrote on Twitter in October 2016, in reference to Trump’s repeated threats to jail his opponent, Hillary Clinton. It is common for departing administration officials to join news networks as analysts or contributors, but less common for them to oversee news coverage.
