Former Sunray, Texas, Police Chief, Wife, Officer Charged in N.Y. Double Murder

The victims have ties to the police chief’s wife.

The former head of a Texas police department, his wife, and a police officer have been arrested in connection with a double murder in upstate New York. Timothy Dean, who headed the Sunray Police Department in the Texas Panhandle until he resigned in May, is accused of driving 1,400 miles and fatally shooting Joshua Niles and Amber Washburn on Oct. 22, the Associated Press reported. Niles, 28, was the ex-boyfriend of Dean’s wife, Charlene Childers, and recently won custody of their 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son. Niles and Washburn, 24, had a 4-year-old daughter together who was present at the time of the killings in the town of Sodus, New York, but was not hurt. Dean, 32, is charged with murder and conspiracy, while Childers, 25, is charged with conspiracy, the AP reported. Sunray Police Officer Bron Bohlar, 34, was charged with conspiracy in the case Wednesday. He was sworn in June 26, when a post on the police department’s Facebook page said he “will make a fantastic addition to our department.”
