Fox News announced on Tuesday that it will be hosting a town hall event with potential independent presidential candidate Howard Schultz on April 4. Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will serve as moderators. The news comes after the Democratic National Committee revealed it would not be allowing Fox to host any of its 2020 primary debates, arguing that due to the “inappropriate relationship” between President Trump and Fox News “the network is not in a position to host a fair and neutral debate for our candidates.” In its official response, Fox News urged the DNC to reconsider, citing Baier, MacCallum and Chris Wallace, “all of whom embody the ultimate journalistic integrity and professionalism.” Baier himself blamed “Fox derangement syndrome” for the decision, but was unable to say definitively that debate questions had not been leaked to Trump by Fox during the 2016 cycle.
