If this fails, perhaps he can replace Simon on American Idol? Sources tell the New York Post that Fox is set to swoop in on Conan, with talks about giving the jilted late-night host a new show to start as early as this week. Fox has long wanted to create a late-night show, though its last attempt, The Chevy Chase Show, was canceled after just four weeks in 1993. Still, Conan comes with a built-in audience, and Fox is now the top-ranked network. The Post says Fox has already begun asking local affiliates if the 11 p.m. timeslot, now mostly reserved for comedy reruns, can be cleared.
