        Fox Unveils ‘X-Files’ Reboot Trailer—And It’s Perfect

        Believe

From mysterious crashes to government troops to, yes, weird probes, it’s 15 seconds of spooky bliss.

        James Joiner

The return of Fox’s X-Files, which gives us six more episodes of spooky, conspiracy-driven bliss starting next January 24, is much like the show itself: hinged on a tenuous faith in the unknown. We want to believe Agents Scully and Mulder, played as before by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, will live up to their characters in the hair-raising and iconic original series, which wrapped after 202 episodes back in 2002. Numerology aside, six episodes in 2016 is as much a gift from the beyond as a testament to the ’90s nostalgia that is ripping everything from Full House to Point Break back from the TV and movie retirement home, and it’s a gift we’ll gladly take.

Last night, Fox finally gave us the above appetite-whetting first look at what was to come: a teaser that is only 15 seconds long, but tells us more in that fraction of time than all the babbling bloggers’ hypothesizing possibly could. Weird crash site? Check. Scary soldiers? Done. Spooky imagery? Yup. Horrific mysterious probe machine? Of course!

As show creator Chris Carter told The Daily Beast back when the new run was announced, there’s no shortage of material.

“I think the world’s gotten that much stranger in the last 13 years. For me, it’s an opportunity as a storyteller to take advantage of that…. This is the stuff that’s worked before, and because it’s worked before, there’s a possibility it can work again.”

And if this goes well, who knows… It may not just end with six.
