Freddie Gray Cop Suspended Twice

Over concerns about ‘self-control and judgment.’

One of the police officers involved in the arrest that led to Freddie Gray’s death was hospitalized in 2012 over mental health concerns and concerns about self-control and judgment, according to a sheriff’s report. It is unclear how long Lt. Brian Rice’s stint in the hospital was for or if he went voluntarily. He was hospitalized after declaring that he “could not continue to go on like this” and had both his official and personal guns confiscated. This incident contributed to at least one of two administrative suspensions in 2012 and 2013, according to a source who spoke to the Associated Press.
