Fugitive treasure hunter Tommy Thompson, who made history in 1988 when he found the sunken S.S. Central America a.k.a. the “Ship of Gold,” was arrested in Florida on Wednesday after two years on the run. Thompson is accused of using more than $12 million from investors to fund the search for the ship and never paying investors back even though his crew recovered over $50 million in gold from the ship. Thompson and his partner had apparently been staying in a suite in the Boca Raton Hilton for two years.
