Gaddafi: ‘We Won’t Surrender Again’

A Syrian-based television network has quoted Muammar Gaddafi warning rebels that his loyalists are armed and will not agree to a peaceful surrender. Though Gaddafi’s voice is not heard in the message, the network reported a statement from the Libyan leader: “We won’t surrender again; we are not women; we will keep fighting.” The statement discouraged rebel officials in Sirte who had offered loyalists another week to surrender in hopes of avoiding further bloodshed. Meanwhile, rebel leaders heading Libya’s National Transitional Council convened at a Paris conference with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to outline plans for a new government.
