Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are slated to write and produce a new series of Star Wars films, the franchise announced Tuesday. According to a released statement, the new films will be separate from the “Skywalker saga” and the upcoming trilogy to be developed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Benioff and Weiss, in a joint statement, said, “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.” No tentative release dates have been announced for the new films.
