Gang Members Arrested in Anti-Gay Assaults

In what’s become a startling trend, an eighth suspect has been arrested in the anti-gay gang assault on three men in New York City, according to police. The man turned himself in at a Bronx police precinct Saturday afternoon and investigators are still on the hunt for a ninth suspect, said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. The gang reportedly went crazy after discovering that one of their 17-year-old recruits was gay. The teen was stripped, beaten, and sodomized with a plunger. The gang then set their sights on a second gay teen, torturing him, and finally targeted a 30-year-old man, who was lured to the apartment and sodomized with a miniature baseball bat. A ninth suspect is still at large and almost turned himself in but “wound up not doing it,” said Kelly. “I was sickened by the brutal nature of these crimes and saddened at the anti-gay bias that contributed to them," said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Saturday. “Hate crimes such as these strike fear into all of us.”
