Online crowdfunding projects have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the family of NYPD chokehold victim Eric Garner, but the slain man’s family says they have not received any of it. Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, and his daughter Erica Garner say that only a few online fundraisers have actually handed over any money, though there are at least 19 collecting in Garner’s name. “I feel like people are trying to use my father’s name for their own gain,” Erica Garner told DNAinfo. “It’s unfortunately a sad situation.” The family is reportedly looking into legal action against the unaffiliated campaigns.
