Gawker founder Nick Denton says he believes a single financier may be responsible for the onslaught of lawsuits against his website following the headline-grabbing case brought forth by Hulk Hogan. Several newly filed lawsuits unrelated to Hogan’s case reportedly attack Gawker reporters and have all been fronted by lawyer Charles Harder, who is allegedly working on a contingency basis. Gawker has spent as much as $10 million on fighting the lawsuits. “My own personal hunch is that it’s linked to Silicon Valley, but that’s nothing really more than a hunch,” Denton said in an interview with The New York Times. “If you’re a billionaire and you don’t like the coverage of you, and you don’t particularly want to embroil yourself any further in a public scandal, it’s a pretty smart, rational thing to fund other legal cases.”
