Washington state has officially joined Maine and Maryland in becoming one of the first states to legalize same-sex marriage via popular vote. Two days after a majority of Washington voters chose to support the same-sex marriage measure on their ballots, the referendum’s opponents conceded Thursday. This wasn’t the only history-making initiative to sail through the Evergreen state’s Election Day ballot. Washington and Colorado also became the first states to legalize the sale and possession of recreational marijuana.
