President Obama has picked the first woman to head a U.S. combatant command: Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Friday that, pending a Senate confirmation, Robinson will be the next head of the military’s Northern Command. Robinson would become the top general in charge of activities in North America. She now oversees air forces in the Pacific. Carter said Friday: “We have, coming along now, a lot of female officers who are exceptionally strong. And Lori certainly fits into that category.”
