The creator of Snowball and Napoleon apparently had a soft side. Before penning 1984 and Animal Farm, George Orwell busied himself in a love triangle, the details of which will be revealed when 20 handwritten letters are sold later this month. Called “the most revealing documents in existence” about the notoriously private author, the missives include secret rendezvous locations between him and Eleanor Jaques: “Do not forget Tuesday, 2.15pm by Smith’s bookshop. And as you love me, do not change your mind before then...Till then, with all my love.” Jaques was dating Orwell’s friend Dennis Collings during their affair. The letters are expected to fetch more than $60,000.
