Despite Donald Trump’s vicious treatment of his father, Jeb Bush, during the GOP primary race, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush urged his state’s Republicans to back the nominee. “From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow,” Bush confessed to an audience over the weekend, “but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton.” George P. Bush becomes the first member of the Bush family to back Trump, while Jeb and former Presidents George W. and George H.W. Bush have declined to lend their support. Jeb was a frontrunner going into the Republican primary contest, but was roundly defeated by Trump despite vastly outspending the real-estate mogul. As a result of their bitter rivalry, and Bush’s belief that Trump is not a “consistent conservative,” the former Florida governor skipped the Republican convention and has said he will vote in the general election for neither Trump nor Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
