George Pataki announced Tuesday night he was withdrawing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. The former New York governor shared the news in a video message posted to Twitter. “I am confident we can elect the right person,” he said in his message. Pataki reportedly told key New Hampshire backers earlier Tuesday that was ending his campaign. According to The Boston Globe, two of Pataki’s biggest supporters in the key first-in-the-nation primary state confirmed that they’d spoken with Pataki about the news—and both said they were unsurprised, considering his inability to make a dent in the polls.
