George R.R. Martin, author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, is coming out with a new book on the Targaryen family’s history on November 20, according to a post on his website. The book, titled Fire & Blood, is the “first half” of the “monumental history of the Targaryen kings of Westeros.” It is 989-pages long, includes 75 illustrations, and “covers all the Targaryen kings from Aegon I (the Conquerer) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane), along with their wives, wars, siblings, children, friends, rivals, laws, travels, and sundry other matters.” Martin continued, saying “Oh, and there are dragons too. Lots of dragons.” He stressed the book was an “imaginary history,” rather than a novel, and wrote that he was not permitted to say if any of the planned HBO Game of Thrones spin-offs would be based on Fire & Blood. The next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, is still being written. The final season of HBO's adaptation of Martin's series will be airing in 2019.
