Georgia ACLU Chief Resigns Over Transgender Lawsuit

The executive director of Georgia's American Civil Liberties Union chapter resigned this week, citing the organization's lawsuit challenging North Carolina's controversial transgender bathroom law. Maya Dillard Smith said "it became clear that we were principally and philosophically different in opinion" over the law. She added that while she did not necessarily oppose the lawsuit, she was unable to "engage in dialogue" with her colleagues about it.
