In a stunning win over the World Cup host country, Germany triumphed in the semifinals for a 7-1 victory against Brazil. In the first 29 minutes, the German team scored five goals, setting World Cup history. Brazil’s Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior made the team’s sole goal late in the game. Germany also made history as the all-time top-scoring team, with 223 total goals, just three more than Brazil. Meanwhile, fearing riots after the win, German fans were warned to stay inside the stadium and await escorts for their own safety. Brazil hasn’t lost a competitive match on its own turf since 1975.
