German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would prefer new elections be held rather than lead a minority government, BBC News reported. Merkel said she will not resign from her position despite the ensuing political crisis after coalition talks failed over the weekend. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier asked the political parties to “reconsider their attitudes” and compromise for the country's “well-being.”
