Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, President Obama’s Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced the closure of the prison at Guantanamo, one of Obama’s key campaign promises, was likely to be delayed for some time, with the influx of Republicans in the new Congress. “It’s probably gonna be a while,” Gibbs said, adding, “I think part of this depends on the Republicans’ willingness to work with the administration on this.” Gibbs also confirmed that the president hasn’t smoked a cigarette in about nine months, and denied that there would be any big staff changes in Obama’s Cabinet in the new year. Gibbs did say he expected a successor for Obama’s chief economic adviser, the embattled Lawrence Summers, to be announced a week or two after the new Congress convenes.
