Former U.S. representative Gabrielle Giffords arrived in Newtown, Conn., on Friday to offer empathy and support to a community devastated by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings three weeks ago today. Giffords, who survived a shot to the head two years ago when a gunman opened fire at a campaign event, was warmly greeted by schools superintendent Janet Robinson. Accompanied by her husband, Mark Kelly, the former congresswoman is scheduled to meet with U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, and others at the town hall and will meet privately with families of shooting victims later this afternoon.
