Good news out of Tucson: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) stood up on both feet and looked out the window on Wednesday, as her family prepared to move her to a rehab facility. Giffords, shot in the head 11 days ago, is still in serious condition, but her mother told family and friends that she’s showing “higher levels of comprehension and complex actions,” including flipping through photos on an iPhone. Giffords is expected to be transported Friday to the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research at Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, which specializes in brain injuries. Her husband, astronaut Capt. Mark Kelly, lives in Houston. Kelly said Tuesday he is unsure about whether Giffords will recover fully from the shooting, but he said his wife plays with her wedding ring when he is in the room—indicating she recognizes him.
