In the ongoing competition over which politician loves Israel the most, Newt Gingrich tried to one-up competitor Mitt Romney by vowing to relocate the American Embassy in the country from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on “day one” of his presidency. Just an hour earlier, Mitt had promised to make Jerusalem the first foreign city he’d visit if elected. Romney had distributed the text of his speech to AIPAC beforehand and accepted questions from a panel once he’d finished his remarks. Gingrich, on the other hand, appeared before the group via satellite and, though he announced he'd also take questions from a panel, one wasn’t assembled for him. Rick Santorum appeared live at the conference to make such dramatic statements as Obama has “turned his back on the state of Israel.”
