Read Newt’s lips: he is not a lobbyist. As GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich climbs in the polls, there has been increased scrutiny on his private business practices since he left Congress in 1999. The Gingrich Group consulting firm and the Center for Health Transformation, both Gingrich concerns, have netted $55 million in 10 years while helping clients boost sales and gain access to government officials. A New York Times investigation shows through previously unreported archived records that, while at the Center for Health Transformation, Gingrich would pitch his clients’ ideas to lawmakers in Washington for $200,000 a year in membership fees. Gingrich’s camp remains adamant that his position never changed when working with clients, and that he’s not a lobbyist, but a visionary instead.
