Former Republican presidential frontrunner Newt Gingrich said on Sunday that he feels he’s been “Romney-boated” by the attack campaign launched against him. An independent analysis showed that 45 percent of all political ads in Iowa were negative spots directed at Gingrich, who has been dropping steadily from the top perch over the last few weeks. At a town hall meeting on Saturday, Gingrich acknowledged that he had not been quick enough to respond to the ads launched by the SuperPAC “Restore Our Future,” which supports Romney. The phrase “Romney-boated” is a play off “swift-boating,” a political phrase coined in 2004 after an independent PAC ran negative ads against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
