Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Sunday said the president may not comply if he is subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of the ongoing Russia investigation. “We don’t have to [comply with a subpoena]. He’s the president of the United States. We can assert the same privilege as other presidents have,” Giuliani told ABC News’ This Week. The former New York City mayor said he’d prefer for Trump to receive “the Hillary Clinton treatment” and be given questions in advance. Trump on Friday said he’d “love to” speak to Mueller provided he’s “treated fairly,” though his lawyers have repeatedly said they fear the president could be facing a “trap” if the interview is done in person.
