Glee's mantlepiece of awards runneth over: FOX's popular critical darling, also a SAG and Golden Globe winner, took home a Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media award for best comedy on Saturday. The 21st annual awards also honored Drew Barrymore and Wanda Sykes for their off-screen advocacy work. Barrymore received a Vanguard award for raising awareness; Sykes, the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, an honor given to openly gay entertainers for their anti-homophobia efforts. Glee’s openly gay writer/co-creator Ryan Murphy said that the show "is about arts education and inclusion, and we are using the show in a great way." He also thanked cast member Jane Lynch for taking advantage of the show's platform to discuss her engagement to her longtime partner, as well as out cast member Chris Colfer (who plays Kurt). "Chris' character will never be the victim,” he said.
