Gloria Steinem Highlights OWS’ Feminist Roots

Says gender disparity is at the heart of economic inequality.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has received support from many high-profile figures, one of whom is Gloria Steinem. The legendary feminist argues that gender equality is at the core of the economic disparity highlighted by OWS. Since women make less than their male counterparts in almost every industry, she says, it’s harder for them to pay back student loans quickly. She also insists that a bigger female presence in the top jobs in finance and government would aid the economy greatly.
