House Republicans on Friday called President Obama's changes to the deportation policy a "blatant attempt" to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants. Under the new rules announced Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security will review it on a case-by-case basis to unclog the system—and in the process make it easier for those that are undocumented immigrants to become citizens. Immigration activists supported the policy change despite the opposition from House Republicans and other anti-immigration forces. A similar variant of the policy, known as the DREAM Act, has been stalled in Congress for nearly a decade, despite Obama throwing his support behind it last year.
