In one of the most intriguing midterm election contests, a high-level GOP source has told ABC’s Jonathan Karl that party leaders have given up on Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller and, worried that Democrat Scott McAdams has a shot of winning, are now backing write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski in the Alaska Senate race. It’s been a long climb for Murkowski, who has been running a write-in campaign since losing the Republican primary to Miller last month. Party leaders stripped Murkowski of her position as ranking member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and her role in Senate leadership as punishment for her actions during the primary, when she refused to bow out of the race and endorse Miller.
