The Senate Republican caucus filibustered Democrats’ attempt to pass a campaign-finance-reform bill that would require special-interest groups running political ads to disclose their donors. The Democrats’ 59 votes were one short of the 60 votes needed to break the Republicans’ filibuster. President Obama said in a statement that he was “deeply disappointed by the unanimous Republican blockade.”
