Utah Republican fundraiser Greg Peterson escaped 25 charges of assault, rape, and kidnapping by committing suicide Tuesday in the same cabin he once used both to host political events and allegedly rape some of his victims. He’d been released from jail on Friday on a $2 million bond, but faced life in prison if convicted of all the charges. Utah officials say Peterson, who hosted events for Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, and Governor Gary Herbert, among others, met many of his alleged victims through Mormon dating websites.
