GOP May Lose ‘Craigslist Congressman’ Seat

As party’s Medicare plan proves unpopular in the district.

The GOP is beginning to back away from its proposal to overhaul Medicare, but it may be too late to save the seat of the former “Craigslist congressman,” Chris Lee. The Republican candidate in suburban Buffalo, Jane L. Corwin, was expected to be a shoo-in for the seat, but her Democratic opponent, Kathy Hochul, has fought her way to within the margin of error by attacking Corwin’s support for Paul Ryan’s Medicare-gutting budget plan. The race is an early test of the Republican agenda; a majority of registered voters in the district are over the age of 45.
