A GOP-backed funding bill would give New York City just $7 million to pay for security around Trump Tower. The bill comes on the heels of an appeal by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and state lawmakers, who asked for $35 million to cover the cost of protecting the president-elect, including overtime pay for local law enforcement who have stepped up security near Trump’s Fifth Avenue home. The actual costs of protecting Trump Tower and the Trump family may likely exceed even the $35 million figure. CNN estimated the city spends $1 million every day protecting Trump Tower. The costs might not necessarily lessen after Trump takes office. His wife Melania and son Barron have indicated that they will continue to live in Trump Tower, even after Trump moves to the White House.
