The assassination attempt on members of Congress last week will help Republicans win a congressional race in Georgia, a local Republican official said over the weekend. Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff are vying to fill an open seat in Tuesday’s special election in the state. Brad Carver, a local GOP chairman, said the mass shooting that seriously wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others would “win this election for us.” Carver said at an event for Handel that the shooter’s liberal beliefs would backfire on Ossoff: “I really do think the congressional baseball shooting is going to decide the election.”
