Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) spoke at a fundraiser organized by an official from a group classified by the New Jersey state government as a domestic terror threat. Edward Durfee, a regional coordinator for the New Jersey Oath Keepers, organized the event. His group is classified as a “domestic terror threat” by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. The state government also says the group is comprised of “militia extremists [who] pose a moderate threat to New Jersey.” At the event, a breakfast on Oct. 1, Garrett reportedly called Durfee an “unsung hero.” Sarah Neibart, Garrett’s campaign manager, said the congressman “has no affiliation—personal or political—with any of the organizations mentioned. Any suggestion otherwise is absurd.”
