Rep. Jason Lewis (R-MN) once questioned whether calling women sluts was “too politically incorrect” and said that young women who voted solely on the issue of birth control lacked cognitive function, CNN’s KFile has found. Lewis used to host a syndicated talk radio show between 2009 and 2014, and demeaned women on-air multiple times, the outlet reported. “[It] used to be that women were held to a little bit of a higher standard. We required modesty from women,” Lewis said. “Now, are we beyond those days where a woman can behave as a slut, but you can't call her a slut?” He also attacked pop singer Madonna on his show, saying that she dressed up in “prostitute-like outfits on stage,” and lamented not being able to refer to her as “a slut without being sued.” He suggested that women who vote “knee-jerk Democrat” are only considering the birth control issue, as well. “[Is] birth control really that important to you ladies? Is that really the most important thing that you get your condoms for free?” he asked. “You’re not, you’re without a brain. You have no, you have no cognitive function whatsoever. If that’s all it takes to buy you off.” In a statement, Lewis’ campaign manager Becky Alery said that it was Lewis’ “job to be provocative while on the radio.” This comes after Lewis barely won his district in 2016, and as he faces a “toss up” election in the November midterms.
